{"id":604,"date":"2012-05-17T17:51:13","date_gmt":"2012-05-17T23:51:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/wordpress\/?p=604"},"modified":"2024-07-14T05:42:23","modified_gmt":"2024-07-14T10:42:23","slug":"the-annual-narpa-rights-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/wordpress\/2012\/05\/17\/the-annual-narpa-rights-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"The annual NARPA rights conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 align=\"center\">NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR RIGHTS PROTECTION AND ADVOCACY<\/h3>\n<h3 align=\"center\"><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/narpa.org\/\">NARPA AT 30:<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/narpa.org\/\">Celebrating Our Past, Creating Our Future<\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>September 5-8, 2012<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong><em>Conference begins Wednesday evening &amp; ends noon Saturday<\/em><\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">The Millennium Hotel<br \/>\nCincinnati, Ohio<\/p>\n<p>For 30 years, NARPA has provided an educational conference with inspiring keynoters and\u00c2\u00a0outstanding workshops.\u00c2\u00a0Learn from each other and come together as a community committed to social justice for people with psychiatric labels &amp; developmental disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration&#8217;s (SAMHSA) Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) is providing financial support to individuals who are current or former recipients of mental health services, in order to enable these individuals to develop or improve advocacy skills from information available at the conference.\u00c2\u00a0The deadline for application\u00c2\u00a0is May 29th. Go to <a href=\"http:\/\/narpa.org\/\">http:\/\/narpa.org\/<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0to download the application form.<\/p>\n<p>NARPA\u00e2\u20ac\u02dcs mission is to promote policies and pursue strategies that result in individuals with psychiatric diagnoses making their own choices regarding treatment.\u00c2\u00a0They educate and mentor those individuals to enable them to exercise their legal and human rights with a goal of abolition of all forced treatment.<\/p>\n<p>NARPA is an independent organization, solely supported by its members. It is a unique mix of people who have experienced psychiatric intervention, advocates, civil rights activists, mental health workers, and lawyers &#8212; with many people whose roles overlap.
