{"id":517,"date":"2011-10-04T18:05:34","date_gmt":"2011-10-05T00:05:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/wordpress\/?p=517"},"modified":"2024-07-14T05:42:27","modified_gmt":"2024-07-14T10:42:27","slug":"mental-health-worker-dies-after-restraining-patient","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/wordpress\/2011\/10\/04\/mental-health-worker-dies-after-restraining-patient\/","title":{"rendered":"Mental health worker dies after restraining patient"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bostonherald.com\/news\/national\/northeast\/view.bg?articleid=1370939\">Mental health worker dies after restraining patient<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>The Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services says a mental health worker at Connecticut Valley Hospital in Middletown died after being involved in restraining an unruly psychiatric patient who was being held to forcibly administer drugs.<\/p>\n<p>We have\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/wordpress\/2011\/02\/06\/deadly-restraints\/\">previously discussed psychiatric restraints<\/a> and the harm this does to patients, but we have not addressed the harm it can do to psychiatric workers.<\/p>\n<p>Is it any wonder that a patient fought back when\u00c2\u00a0five of his\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u0153caretakers\u00e2\u20ac\u009d held him down to give him psychiatric drugs?<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of people of all ages continue to die from such callous, physical assault in psychiatric facilities across the globe; and now, regrettably, we can add mental health workers to this list.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Assault\u00e2\u20ac\u009d is by definition an attempt or apparent attempt to inflict injury upon another by using unlawful force, along with the ability to injure that person. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Battery\u00e2\u20ac\u009d is defined as any unlawful beating or other wrongful physical violence or constraint inflicted on a human being without his consent.
