{"id":4523,"date":"2025-02-05T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-02-05T16:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/wordpress\/?p=4523"},"modified":"2025-02-03T14:32:55","modified_gmt":"2025-02-03T20:32:55","slug":"take-action-missouri-legislature-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/wordpress\/2025\/02\/05\/take-action-missouri-legislature-8\/","title":{"rendered":"Take Action &#8211; Missouri Legislature"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><em><\/em><em>Psychiatry&#8217;s Continued Attacks on Missouri Citizens<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This session of the Missouri Legislature has several bills demonstrating the psychiatric industry&#8217;s continued attempts to defraud and abuse citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-a7265f33f13647b1cdb11af58dd8b70b\" style=\"color:#c80707\"><strong>Very Very Bad Bills<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.mo.gov\/25info\/BTS_Web\/Bill.aspx?SessionType=R&amp;BillID=484\">SB90<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp; Decriminalizes the psychedelic drug psilocybin in certain cases, and requires the Department of Mental Health to conduct a study on it for mental health treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sponsor: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.mo.gov\/Senators\/member\/19\">Senator Stephen Webber<\/a> (Democrat, District 19 &#8211; Boone)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Psilocybin is a naturally occurring psychedelic compound found in over 200 species of mushrooms, commonly known as &#8220;magic mushrooms.&#8221; It alters perception, mood, and cognition, and produces hallucinations. It can also cause anxiety, paranoia, and depersonalization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is not known how psychedelic drugs are supposed to work as mental health treatment. Psychedelics carry the risks of devastating immediate and long-term harms, putting human lives and sanity at risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information about CCHR&#8217;s opposition to psychedelic drugs, please <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/wordpress\/2024\/06\/10\/push-for-use-of-psychedelic-drugs-as-mental-health-treatment-downplays-dangerous-risks-citizens-commission-on-human-rights-says-in-protest\/\">see the discussion here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are also two similar bills <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/house.mo.gov\/Bill.aspx?bill=HB829&amp;year=2025&amp;code=R\">HB829<\/a> <\/strong>and<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/house.mo.gov\/Bill.aspx?bill=HB951&amp;year=2025&amp;code=R\">HB951<\/a><\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sponsor: <a href=\"https:\/\/house.mo.gov\/MemberDetails.aspx?district=102&amp;year=2025&amp;code=R\">Representative\u00a0Richard West<\/a>\u00a0(Republican, District 102 &#8211; St. Charles)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sponsor: <a href=\"https:\/\/house.mo.gov\/memberdetails.aspx?district=155&amp;year=2025&amp;code=R\">Representative\u00a0Matthew Overcast<\/a>\u00a0(Republican, District 155 &#8211; Stone, Ozark, Taney, Douglas)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There were two similar bills in last year&#8217;s Legislative Session, indicating that this is a hot topic for psychiatry.&nbsp;We are seeing a rapturous psychiatric reception given to these <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/wordpress\/2024\/06\/17\/cchr-applauds-fda-advisory-committee-rejection-of-psychedelic-assisted-psychotherapy-for-post-traumatic-stress\/\">harmful psychedelics<\/a>, buoyed by a re-hashed brain chemical theory and claims of a \u201crenaissance\u201d in mental health treatment. It took 30 years for the \u201cchemical-imbalance-in-the-brain-causes-depression\u201d myth to be fully recognized as pseudoscience and dangerously misleading to consumers. We should recognize the trademark signs of this same marketing scam with psychedelics and prevent America from \u201cturning on and tuning out\u201d to these mind-altering drugs before it is too late.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.mo.gov\/25info\/BTS_Web\/Bill.aspx?SessionType=R&amp;BillID=377\">SB218<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp; Provides for the establishment of a mental health treatment court as an alternative for the disposal of cases that stem from mental health or co-occurring disorders of criminal defendants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sponsor: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.mo.gov\/Senators\/member\/12\">Senator Rusty Black<\/a> (Republican, District 12 &#8211; Andrew, Atchison, Caldwell, Carroll, Chariton, Clinton, Daviess, Dekalb, Gentry, Grundy, Harrison, Holt, Linn, Livingston, Mercer, Nodaway, Sullivan, Worth and part of Buchanan County)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Basically, a mental health treatment court is a path to place offenders into the psychiatric mental health system, instead of handling criminal actors in the Justice System where they belong. This subversion of Justice has been a primary inroad for psychiatric fraud and abuse in society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Psychiatry\u2019s ideologies and actions have contributed to today\u2019s failing criminal rehabilitation and increasing crime rate.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information about this, please <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/justice.shtml\">see the discussion here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are also two similar bills <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/house.mo.gov\/Bill.aspx?bill=HB82&amp;year=2025&amp;code=R\">HB82<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/house.mo.gov\/Bill.aspx?bill=HB227&amp;year=2025&amp;code=R\">HB227<\/a><\/strong>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sponsor: <a href=\"https:\/\/house.mo.gov\/MemberDetails.aspx?district=060&amp;year=2025&amp;code=R\">Representative&nbsp;Dave Griffith<\/a>&nbsp;(Republican, District 60 &#8211; Cole)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sponsor: <a href=\"https:\/\/house.mo.gov\/MemberDetails.aspx?district=129&amp;year=2025&amp;code=R\">Representative&nbsp;John Black<\/a>&nbsp;(Republican, District 129 &#8211; Webster)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.mo.gov\/25info\/BTS_Web\/Bill.aspx?SessionType=R&amp;BillID=208\">SB44<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp; This act establishes the &#8220;Committee on School Safety&#8221; within the Department of Public Safety. The Committee shall at least quarterly evaluate and establish guidelines for school safety concerns, <em>including plans to prevent school firearm violence<\/em>. While it does not specifically mention psychiatry or mental health, it does not preclude psychiatric interference in the matter such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/screening.shtml\">mental health screenings<\/a>&nbsp;for school children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Psychiatric, mind-altering drugs have been found to be the common factor in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cchrint.org\/issues\/psychiatric-drugs-create-violence-suicide\/\">overwhelming number of school shootings<\/a>. We urge you to alert your legislators to this fact, and ask them to incorporate this information into this legislation in order to head off fraudulent and abusive psychiatric involvement in any school safety committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sponsor: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.mo.gov\/Senators\/member\/10\">Senator Travis Fitzwater<\/a> (Republican, District 10 &#8211; Callaway, Lincoln, Montgomery, Pike and Part of St. Charles County)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br \/><br \/><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/house.mo.gov\/Bill.aspx?bill=HB680&amp;year=2025&amp;code=R\">HB680<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp; Requires the department of mental health to apply for grant funding from the United States Department of Health and Human Services to establish mobile mental health units throughout the state in cooperation with local public health agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What can we say about this? \u201cPsychiatry does not commit human rights abuse. Just put the bill number into the search box (e.g. SB123 or HB123).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While this list is not all the bad bills, and does not include any of the good bills, we&#8217;ve chosen the worst of the bad&#8217;uns to get you going on contacting your legislators!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Decide for yourself&nbsp;and take action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Summary<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead of these failed psychiatric approaches, the emphasis must be on workable mental healing methods that improve and strengthen individuals and thereby society by restoring people to personal strength, ability, competence, confidence, stability, responsibility and spiritual well-being. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/truth.shtml\">Psychiatric drugs<\/a>&nbsp;and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/\">psychiatric treatments<\/a>&nbsp;are not workable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Read the text of these bills to see how they encourage psychiatric fraud and abuse, and urge your Missouri state legislators to reject pro-psych bills in their current form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The real problem is that psychiatrists fraudulently diagnose life&#8217;s problems as an &#8220;illness&#8221;, and stigmatize unwanted behavior as &#8220;diseases.&#8221; Psychiatry&#8217;s stigmatizing labels, programs and treatments are harmful junk science; their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/dsm.shtml\">diagnoses of &#8220;mental disorders&#8221; are a hoax<\/a> &#8211; unscientific, fraudulent and harmful.
