{"id":335,"date":"2010-09-22T21:23:23","date_gmt":"2010-09-23T03:23:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/wordpress\/?p=335"},"modified":"2024-07-14T05:43:08","modified_gmt":"2024-07-14T10:43:08","slug":"forest-pharmaceuticals-pleads-guilty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/wordpress\/2010\/09\/22\/forest-pharmaceuticals-pleads-guilty\/","title":{"rendered":"Forest Pharmaceuticals pleads guilty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Forest Pharmaceuticals, an Earth City, MO drug maker, <a href=\"http:\/\/stlouis.bizjournals.com\/stlouis\/stories\/2010\/09\/13\/daily31.html?surround=lfn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has agreed to plead  guilty<\/a> to federal criminal and civil charges and pay more than $313 million to resolve allegations that it made drugs without FDA approval, marketed an antidepressant for pediatric use, and gave kickbacks to doctors for prescribing  these harmful drugs.<\/p>\n<p>Forest Pharma, a subsidiary of New York based Forest Labs, signed a plea  agreement to settle, among other charges, the illegal promotion of the  antidepressant Celexa for children, and causing the submission of false  insurance claims for the antidepressants Celexa and Lexapro.<\/p>\n<p>The settlement alleges that Forest misled doctors and consumers by failing to  disclose a European medical study that determined <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cchrint.org\/2010\/09\/15\/forest-labs-will-pay-313-mil-to-settle-criminal-civil-charges-that-it-improperly-marketed-antidepressants-for-use-in-children-distributed-unapproved-thyroid-drug\/\">Celexa  was ineffective for pediatric use<\/a>. Lexapro is the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s main money  maker, with sales of $2.3 billion in fiscal year 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Celexa (citalopram) and Lexapro (escitalopram oxalate) can cause suicidal  thoughts or actions in children.<\/p>\n<p>Recognize that the real problem  is that psychiatrists fraudulently diagnose life&#8217;s problems as an &#8220;illness&#8221;, and  stigmatize unwanted behavior or study problems as\u00c2\u00a0 &#8220;diseases.&#8221; Psychiatry&#8217;s stigmatizing labels,  programs and treatments are harmful junk science; their diagnoses of &#8220;mental  disorders&#8221; are a hoax &#8211; unscientific, fraudulent and harmful.
