{"id":313,"date":"2010-08-15T08:09:09","date_gmt":"2010-08-15T14:09:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/wordpress\/?p=313"},"modified":"2024-07-14T05:43:08","modified_gmt":"2024-07-14T10:43:08","slug":"the-brave-new-world-of-pre-drugging-kids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/wordpress\/2010\/08\/15\/the-brave-new-world-of-pre-drugging-kids\/","title":{"rendered":"The Brave New World of Pre-Drugging Kids"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><strong><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Patrick McGorry Psychosis Risk  Syndrome<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>By JAN EASTGATE<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Summarising his paper &#8216;Pre-Psychotic Treatment for Schizophrenia: Preventive  Medicine, Social Control, or Drug Marketing Strategy?&#8217; Gosden states: &#8216;A  preventive medicine campaign based on the type of prodromal [indicating an early  stage of a disease]\u00c2\u00a0symptoms and risk factors specified in the <em>Australian  Clinical Guidelines for Early Psychosis<\/em> potentially defines the whole  generation of young people as being at risk and in need of treatment.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The entire concept of pre-drugging children sounds like a page out of Aldous  Huxley\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 1932 novel,<em> Brave New World. <\/em>In it,<em> <\/em>Huxley depicts a  &#8216;utopian&#8217; but totalitarian society, one that is insane and bent on control using  the &#8216;technique of suggestion \u00e2\u20ac\u201c through infant conditioning and, later, with the  aid of drugs.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Psychiatrists took this to heart in 1967 when a group of prominent  psychiatrists and doctors met in Puerto Rico to discuss the plan for  psychotropic drug use on &#8216;normal humans&#8217; in the year 2000.
