An  inability to digest these grains is called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celiacdisease.net\/\">celiac disease<\/a>. Estimates for\u00c2\u00a0those  having celiac disease\u00c2\u00a0are generally thought to be\u00c2\u00a01% of the population, or about  1 in 100. It may be more, since not everyone displays significant symptoms.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.examiner.com\/x-8543-SF-Health-News-Examiner%7Ey2009m4d30-UK-study-Gluten-tied-to-schizophrenia\">Studies<\/a> have shown celiac disease to be inordinately high in groups of people diagnosed  with schizophrenia. <a href=\"http:\/\/celiacdisease.about.com\/b\/2009\/04\/25\/large-grant-will-help-researchers-study-links-between-schizophrenia-and-gluten.htm\">Removing  gluten<\/a> from the diets of those diagnosed with schizophrenia often results in  a significant improvement of behavior.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Brain-Allergies-Psychonutrient-Connection-Including\/dp\/0879834269\/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1252855503&amp;sr=1-6-spell\">study  of schizophrenics by Dr. William Philpott<\/a> showed allergic responses as  follows: Wheat (64%), Mature corn (51%), Pasteurized whole cow milk (50%),  Tobacco (75%), and Hydrocarbons (30%). Ninety-two percent of the patients showed  allergic responses with an average of ten items per person causing  reactions.<\/p>\n<p>Symptoms of celiac disease can  include mood swings, depression, anxiety, irritability, compulsive behavior,  learning difficulties,\u00c2\u00a0delusions, hallucinations, incoherence, disorganization,  stupor, hyperactivity, and other mental disorders, which can be misdiagnosed as  schizophrenia or other mental illness.<\/p>\n<p>An antibody blood <a href=\"http:\/\/www.celiacdisease.net\/testing\">test<\/a> will show if the system is  responding negatively to gluten.\u00c2\u00a0Positive diagnosis of celiac disease occurs  only with an endoscopic biopsy\u00c2\u00a0(analyzing a tissue sample\u00c2\u00a0from the small  intestine) which\u00c2\u00a0is the only way to\u00c2\u00a0distinguish it from food allergies or other  issues. Pfeiffer, Ph.D., M.D.]<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/documents\/schizophrenia_EN.pdf\">Schizophrenia<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Psychiatrists remain committed to  calling \u00e2\u20ac\u0153schizophrenia\u00e2\u20ac\u009d a mental<br \/>\ndisease despite, after a century  of research, the complete absence of objective proof that it exists as  a physical brain abnormality.<\/p>\n<p>Also, psychiatry clings  tenaciously to antipsychotics as the treatment for \u00e2\u20ac\u0153schizophrenia,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d despite  their proven risks and studies which show that when patients stop taking  these drugs, they improve.<\/p>\n<p>Psychiatrists not only admit that  they have no idea what causes the symptoms characterized as schizophrenia, but  also they have no scientifically validated proof whatsoever that it even exists  as a discrete physical illness.<\/p>\n<p>The word &#8220;schizophrenia&#8221; comes  from the Greek <em>skhizein &#8216;<\/em>to split&#8217; + <em>phren<\/em> &#8216;mind&#8217;. A useful  definition of &#8220;schizophrenia&#8221; could be: an idea that one is two persons, which  is remediable by a discovery of the life continuums being dramatized by the  individual. A life continuum is the phenomenon of an individual&#8217;s tendency to  carry on the fears, goals, habits and manifestations of others who have failed,  departed or are dead. [definition from L. Ron Hubbard, 1952]<\/p>\n<p>There <em>are<\/em> solutions to\u00c2\u00a0mental disturbances  that avoid the serious risks and flaws inherent in psychiatry.
