{"id":2124,"date":"2021-03-15T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-03-15T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/wordpress\/?p=2124"},"modified":"2024-07-14T05:38:56","modified_gmt":"2024-07-14T10:38:56","slug":"tianeptine-an-alternative-worse-than-opioids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/wordpress\/2021\/03\/15\/tianeptine-an-alternative-worse-than-opioids\/","title":{"rendered":"Tianeptine &#8211; An Alternative Worse Than Opioids"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Just when one might have thought that the U.S. was getting a handle on opioid addiction, another harmful and highly addictive opioid-like drug has appeared in widespread use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The March 2021 issue of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.consumerreports.org\/dietary-supplements\/tianeptine-illegal-dietary-supplement-is-being-sold-and-the-fda-knows-it\/\"><em>Consumer Reports<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;has a comprehensive article about Tianeptine, an illegal drug linked to reports of harm, abuse and deaths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tianeptine acts in the brain as an opioid. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/food\/dietary-supplement-products-ingredients\/tianeptine-dietary-supplements\">The FDA says<\/a>&nbsp;it is illegal and unsafe in the U.S., although it is approved as a prescription antidepressant in some European, Asian, and Latin American countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reports indicate that tianeptine is even more addictive, with more severe withdrawal adverse reactions, than opioids and heroin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet some proponents, possibly motivated by greed if not by malign intentions, are trying to get the FDA to approve it as a prescription drug for depression in the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Are You Depressed?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Psychiatry is heavily pushing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/depression.shtml\">false data about depression<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fact is, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Medical Association and the National Institute of Mental Health admit that there are no medical tests to confirm mental disorders as a disease but do nothing to counter the false idea that these are biological\/medical conditions when in fact, diagnosis is simply done by a checklist of behaviors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People do experience symptoms of depression.
