{"id":1873,"date":"2020-07-05T08:06:58","date_gmt":"2020-07-05T14:06:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/wordpress\/?p=1873"},"modified":"2024-07-14T05:38:58","modified_gmt":"2024-07-14T10:38:58","slug":"scientists-gave-ketamine-to-sheep-and-were-baaaffled-by-the-result","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/wordpress\/2020\/07\/05\/scientists-gave-ketamine-to-sheep-and-were-baaaffled-by-the-result\/","title":{"rendered":"Scientists Gave Ketamine to Sheep and were Baaaffled by the Result"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>&#8220;While studying <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/neoscope\/brain-readings-ketamine-puzzling-scientists\">the effects of ketamine on sheep<\/a>, researchers say they found something truly strange: high doses of the drug appeared to turn the sheep&#8217;s brains off&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, why were they abusing sheep?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Second, we already know that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/wordpress\/2017\/08\/28\/knock-yourself-out\/\">ketamine is abusive to people<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And finally, we already know that ketamine, a powerful psychedelic anesthetic, is being relentlessly touted as a &#8220;new antidepressant&#8221; when in fact it just knocks you out so you don&#8217;t feel much of anything, a surefire clue that the brain has been turned off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The same applies to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/wordpress\/2019\/03\/18\/knock-yourself-out-with-spravato-esketamine\/\">Spravato (Esketamine)<\/a>, a nasal spray version of the anesthetic drug.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ketamine is also known to be an illicit party drug, used by rapists to quell their victim&#8217;s movements. It&#8217;s hard to imagine how this &#8220;Club Drug&#8221; could be hailed by some psychiatrists as a potential solution for suicidal patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The use of ketamine to treat <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cchrstl.org\/depression.shtml\">so-called depression<\/a> is unethical and actually harmful, since it precludes the patient from finding out what is actually wrong and getting that treated.
