Social Services are in severe need of a change. My daughter was deeply depressed and they took the children out of MY home because they didn’t want the children to see her that way. They seem to forget, I, the grandmother, was in the home. There is NO evidence of abuse. Although they did not want my daughter alone with the children while she got counseling and we could get family counseling, they refused to help me with child care since. WHAT ABOUT PARENTS WHO SMOKE OR DRINK IN THE HOME??? Should those children been removed under these guidelines? My granddaughter, Arielle, age 5, has been placed in foster care. It’s been a horrible event and has opened my eyes to the judicial system as well as Social Services and Foster Care. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE FAMILY. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW THAT. Mayor Sessoms needs to clean house.
I am a good Christian woman with a stable and safe home. I work hard and I am a good citizen of the city of Virginia Beach.
Our last court session, in December, trying to get my granddaughter back, was set for 10:30 am. We did not get into court until 4pm. For the first half hour, we had to listen to Judge Rawls complain about how she was not suppose to hear this case and how upset she was that she only had 15 minutes to read a 32 page document from social services and how many judges had already passed on it and yada yada yada. WoW … don’t our taxes pay her?
Three attorneys including my granddaughter’s attorney, who was appointed by the court to decide what was in the best interest of the child, ALL recommended Arielle be placed back in my home with me. One attorney even said we were being railroaded. Yet, since the judge was already angry that she was there, did not care who I was, what kind of person I was or what was in the best interest of my granddaughter.
She decided it was better for Arielle to be kept in foster care where she is being drugged with anxiety medication to help her cope with foster care (because the child therapist could only determine that Arielle was suffering from anxiety separation.) The way I was treated in court was unbelievable. I just could not believe it. And yet again the case it postpone to a future day, which I have yet to be informed. We did not get out of court until 7pm.
I encourage you to check out Anderson Cooper’s report in December on Foster care drugging children as young as one-year-old. Also read Judith Warner’s article in Time Magazine (12/02/2011) on Overmedicating Foster Kids.
My friends, family and Church are ALL outraged and just cannot understand how this could happen.
I can’t tell you the last time I’ve been able to sleep at night. When I lay my head down at night all I see are Arielle’s face.

Seroquel,Risperal reproached.
Same saga here as Eli Lilly Zyprexa.
Lilly made $41 Billion on Zyprexa using *off Label" push promotions.
The AG of more than one state talked of using the R.I.C.O act on them.
Zyprexa was hailed as *the most successful drug in the history of neuroscience*.
Wonder why?
Risperdal,Zyprexa.Seroquel are glorified Thorazine at ten times the price.

With all due respect, but this article does contain some misunderstandings and inaccuracies. True is that Stapel cheated: he is arguably the biggest cause of fraud in science ever. However, it is grotesque to say that this kind of behavior is typical for the social and behavioral sciences. It is as (a)typical for these disciplines as any other scientific discipline. True is also that Stapel will unlikely to be held criminally responsible, simple because there are no law against lying (except when you do it in front of Congress, a Court, police, or other investigative body). However, Stapel's fraudulent papers will be or have been retracted already. You cannot "un-print" them, but there are/will be statements in each publication that make clear that the papers are invalid.
The 9/11 study that is being referred to makes clear that six days after the attacks Americans did report feeling depressed. Nowhere in this paper did the authors assert that Americans were "mentally damaged" as a result of 9/11, or that they should receive a clinical diagnosis of depression. All the authors of this study did was report how people felt. (And if you think back to that time, maybe even you may have felt depressed by this horrendous act.)
The fact that pharmaceutical companies do not report negative studies is a recurring problem in MEDICAL research (something that Stapel had nothing to do with: he was a psychologist). Withholding negative results constitutes a problem of "omission", people not sharing knowledge of something that did happen. Stapel's case is different in that he actually made stuff up. The not-sharing of failed research is a problem everywhere, and though reprehensible, it is not dissimilar from a job candidate advertising their own strengths rather than their weaknesses (even when a future employer cannot have one without the other). Still, active deception is different from omitting facts.

A few things to think consider:

1. If you examine the research pertaining to murder and suicide, the data indicates (e.g., Role of Antidepressants in Murder and Suicide KENNETH TARDIFF, M.D., M.P.H.; PETER M. MARZUK, M.D.; ANDREW C. LEON, PH.D. Am J Psychiatry 2002;159:1248-1249), individuals taking antidepressants are less likely to engage in such acts when compared to the general population.

2. Correlations does not imply causality. Just because two things are associated does not mean one causes the other. For example, the rate of drowning in the U.S. is higher in the Summer than any other season. People eat more ice cream during the Sumer. Does ice cream CAUSE drowning? Obviously, this is not the case; nonetheless, the correlation exists.

3. Parents often do NOT know if a teen is taking drugs, or if they do, when it actually started. I would not rule out that the teen may have been taking drugs earlier than the parents reported. Also, several substances that are abused, such as methamphetamines and phencyclidine can induce aggressive behavior. Without knowing what he was taking, I can't speak to this issue.

4. Antidepressants take a LONG time to achieve a full effect. Typically, antidepressants such as Prozac take up to 8 to 12 weeks to achieve a full effect. Illegal drug or alcohol use at any time during antidepressant treatment can seriously compromise the ability of an antidepressant to do its job, or even render the drug completely ineffective. Combine the two and who knows what could happen?

5. Just because the media reports it doesn't make it true. Bad news sells, or at the very least, attracts public attention. Look at school shootings. Because of media coverage, there was an overwhelming push to examine this issue, when in fact, the average individual is statistically more likely to win the litter than be involved in a school shooting. Truth is, school shootings are extremely rare. I suspect you will never see the media lining up to report the overwhelming number of studies that have supported the safety and efficacy of antidepressants.

Food for thought.
